Blackboard is an online course management system that acts as an extension to the classroom. This system is very easy to use and provides such features as: posted course materials and announcements, discussion boards, virtual chat sessions with whiteboard functionality, email functionality, a digital drop box for students to submit assignments, and online assessments.

How do I access the system?

How do I login to the system?

To login to this system, please use your NETID (Pegasus/Eden account). If you have a NETID and cannot login to the system, please contact the OIT Newark Computing Services helpdesk via email at . How do I change my email address in Blackboard?

To check your email address you can do this:  From your home page, use the personal information tab on the left hand side of the browser window to access this option. This same page also has an, "Edit personal information" link which you should use to confirm your email address.

If you find an invalid email address in your Blackboard account you will not be able to change it from within the Blackboard system. In order to update this email address, you have to update your official student record and the Blackboard system will update your email address automatically within 48 hours. If your email address is listed as your Eden or Pegasus account, but you do not regularly check that account for messages, you should setup forwarding so that emails are forwarded to an account you check on a regular basis.

Am I automatically enrolled in courses on the Blackboard system?

Students are added to the system automatically based on enrollment and based on the availability of a NETID. The system updates rosters daily, so if you just registered for a class you may not see that new course for up to 48 hours.

How do I get support for problems I am experiencing?

If you are having problems accessing the system, or a specific course, and you need support please send an email with your full name, the full course number you are seeking access to, and your professor's name to . This information is needed in order to verify your eligibility for enrollment. My old courses show up on my Blackboard welcome screen. Is there any way to get rid of these old courses?

You can update Blackboard so that it only displays certain courses. To change what courses are displayed, use the pencil icon pencil in the My Courses window to set the display properties.  If you do opt to hide a course, please also uncheck the announcements for that course as well. 

I tried to send my Professor a document via the digital drop box, but he has not received it? What could have caused this?

When using the digital drop box in Blackboard, please ensure that you use the send button and not the add button. The add button merely moves the document to temporary storage under your account, while the send button actually sends the document to your instructor.

I was given a Blackboard account for orientation. Can I continue to use this account?

f you used BlackBoard during orientation, the user account you received was setup only for the purposes of training. This account will not be available after the semester starts and this will not be the account that you will use to access your courses.

I am having problems receiving emails that are sent to me from Blackboard. What would be causing this problem?

If you have already reviewed your email address in the system and updated your email address on the people database as outlined above in FAQ #3 , then your email should be working. Please be aware though that some SPAM filters may view emails sent through Blackboard as SPAM and you should view any folders that are holding your filtered SPAM email.
