Criteria for evaluating performance as a teaching assistant

In order for his or her performance to be deemed adequate, a teaching assistant must

  • communicate effectively with the people with whom he or she is assigned to work, especially students,
  • deal with them in a professional and courteous manner,
  • demonstrate the skills needed for teaching, including language skills, at a level commensurate with his or her stage in the program, devote the required amount of time to the assistantship and be available when needed,
  • complete assignments fully and in a timely manner, and
  • provide written work that is clear, accurate, and well organized
