Road to CPA - Newark

A career as a Certified Public Accountant equates to a world of possibilities: opportunity, mobility, professional advancement, and financial rewards.

The Road to CPA-Newark is a broad-based program with multiple targeted initiatives aimed to benefit all Rutgers Newark accounting majors at every academic level.

Program Highlights

  • Academic and Career Guidance: Stay on-track with CPA licensure preparedness and awareness throughout accounting studies at Rutgers geared towards CPA exam success and career achievement.

  • CPA Exam Review: Accounting students who have completed Advanced Accounting I may enroll in the Rutgers CPA-Level Financial Accounting and Reporting review course obtaining extensive new materials and tools to enhance their potential for passing the FAR section of the CPA Exam. 
  • Leadership Speaker Series: Obtain access to resources and opportunities including CPA panel discussions, ‘Meet the Accounting Firms’, and other targeted events.

  • Seminars and Workshops: Attend a variety of informational seminars and workshops on knowledge and skill development including technical accounting areas, business communications, professional resume writing, interviewing, and networking related to opportunities in the accounting profession.

Application Criteria: Those who apply to The Road to the CPA-Newark Student Cohort must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Major: Accounting 
  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA overall 
  • Essays: Submit 2 essays describing your career interests and reasons to join the cohort. 
  • Resume: Submit a one-page resume with academic and professional experience.
  • Deadline: Application Closed for 2022

 

Accounting majors with a goal for CPA licensure are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition to the benefits of the overall Road to CPA program, RTCPA-Newark Student Cohort members participate in:

  • Mentoring: Matched with accounting professionals and peer mentors providing professional and academic direction, industry insight, and network creation.
  • Academic Skill Assessments: Students’ accounting skill levels are examined, technical growth areas are identified, and a path forward is developed.
  • Student-created Accounting Bulletins: Road to CPA-Newark Student Cohort members develop technical, analytical, and writing skills in accounting bulletins.
