Criteria prior to Fall 2025

Entered RBS as a first-year student directly from High School

  • Cumulative grade-point average lower than 2.0 at end of the first year (second semester)
  • Three grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in pre-business courses
  • Cumulative grade-point average lower than 2.5 by May of the sophomore year (a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required to declare a Business major)
  • Not completing all six pre-business courses with a grade of C (2.0) or higher by May of the sophomore year (end of the 4th semester)
  • There will be no summer session extensions, for the completion of pre-business requirements. The end of the spring semester (May) is always the firm deadline
  • Three grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in business courses

***Students dismissed from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick prior to successful (C or higher) completion of all six pre-business courses are not eligible to appeal their dismissal.***


Entered RBS as an external or school-to-school transfer student still in the pre-business stage

  • Cumulative grade-point average lower than 2.5 at the end of the second semester in RBS.
  • Three grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in pre-business courses
  • Not completing all six pre-business courses with a grade of C (2.0) or higher by the end of the 2nd semester (May) in RBS
  • There will be no summer session extensions, for the completion of pre-business requirements. The end of the spring semester (May) is always the firm deadline
  • Three grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in business courses
