Internship/Coop for Credit Program

Undergraduate New Brunswick

New Brunswick Students

This application is for the Rutgers Business School (RBS) on the New Brunswick campus and is to be used by RBS-New Brunswick undergraduate students who meet the following criteria prior to the start of the internship/co-op:

Application Criteria

All RBS-New Brunswick undergraduate students need to have completed at least 60 total credits OR declared their major with junior status. In addition, transfer students need to have completed at least 12 credits at Rutgers.

Students need to have completed the intro course of the related Internship or Co-op (and passed with a grade of at least a “C”) before they can be registered for the credits related to that internship or Co-op:

  • Accounting Internship or Co-Op: Intro to Financial Accounting (33:010:272)
  • BAIT Internship or Co-Op (any 1 of these 3 classes): Statistical Methods in Business (33:136:385), Management Information Systems (33:136:370) or Operations Management (33:136:386)
  • Finance Internship or Co-Op: Intro to Financial Management (33:390:300) or Financial Management for Finance Majors (33:390:310)
  • Leadership and Management Internship or Co-Op: Intro to Management (33:620:301)
  • Marketing Internship or Co-Op: Intro to Marketing (33:630:301)
  • Supply Chain Management Internship or Co-Op: Intro to Supply Chain Management (33:799:301)

Accounting, BAIT, Finance and Leadership/Management majors are able to apply to get general elective credits for their internship or co-op as long as all guidelines are met. A minimum overall GPA of 2.75 is required to apply. Please note that general elective credits do NOT substitute for any classes; they only add to the total number of completed credits once a student successfully completes the internship or co-op along with an associated class that is taken on Canvas.

The Supply Chain Department and Marketing Department offer students with those majors the opportunity to receive major elective credit if students and their respective internships or co-ops meet the required guidelines and students successfully complete the associated class along with the internship/co-op.

IMPORTANT: Although Rutgers University has a few internship/co-op for credit programs, the RBS Program is the only one where Supply Chain and Marketing majors will receive major elective credit for approved positions.

Please note that the Supply Chain Department does not have a minimum GPA requirement for Supply Chain majors who are seeking Supply Chain elective credit and the Marketing Department requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher for Marketing majors seeking Marketing elective credit!!

Also, note that Supply Chain majors may only take one experiential learning course towards their SCM required courses from among these three categories: Industry Client Projects, Internship in Supply Chain Management, and Co-op in Supply Chain Management. Co-op in Supply Chain Management and Internship in Supply Chain Management for SCM required credits are by application only through the Supply Chain department. If you choose to take Co-op in Supply Chain as your one SCM required course, you will be registered for both 799:421 (SCM Co-op) for SCM credit and 011:482 (Special Topics in Admin Studies) for general elective credit. Any other experiential learning experience after your one allowed for SCM required credit must apply through to the Office of Career Management and you will be registered for general elective credit only.

Marketing majors with approved internships for credit will be registered for 33:630:490 (Marketing Internship).  If you have an approved Marketing Co-op Position, you will be registered for both 33:630:491 (Marketing Co-op) for Marketing major elective credit and 33:011:482 (Special Topics in Administrative Studies) for general elective credit.
