COVID-19 Policy Exceptions
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, courses taken during the spring 2020, summer 2020, fall 2020, winter 2021, spring 2021, and summer 2021 semesters may be successfully completed with a grade of C or Pass.
The requirements for Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate–New Brunswick programs of study can be divided into three parts.
- Five Foundational Core Requirements (formerly known as “pre-business”)
- Business Core Requirements
- RBS Major Required and Major Elective Courses
Students must complete the requirements of their chosen major that are in effect at the time of their admission into Rutgers Business School.
In addition to the RBS curriculum students are required to complete the general education requirements of the SAS Core Curriculum.
To receive a degree from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick, students must take at least 45 business credits at the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate–New Brunswick.
Please Note: There are 4 courses from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) that resemble Rutgers Business School course titles. If you take these courses, they will NOT count towards completion of your RBS degree. The courses are:
- Intro. to Marketing (11:373:231)
- Intro. to Management (11:373:241)
- Business Finance I (11:373:351)
- Business Finance II (11:373:451)
RBS students are not permitted to declare a second major or a minor in the Environmental Business and Economics program at SEBS due to the overlap of the above-listed courses with required RBS courses.
Foundational Core Requirements (formerly known as “pre-business”)
Students must complete five foundational core classes, ideally by the end of the sophomore year. All foundational core classes must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Business Core Requirements
All RBS students must complete these 15 courses regardless of their choice of major program. All Business Core requirements must be completed with a grade of C or better.

- Starting in Summer 2024, 33:390:310 Financial Management for Finance majors will not be offered. All RBS students will take 33:390:300 Financial Management regardless of major. A grade of B or higher will be required in 33:390:300 to declare the finance major or finance concentration and to take any additional courses in the finance department.
- Students who previously completed Financial Management for Finance Majors 33:390:310 are not required to have a B or better in the course, in order to declare a finance major or concentration (grade of C or better will suffice in Finance 310).

* Accounting majors must take Business Law I as their required course. All other business majors may choose either Business Law I or Business Ethics.
** Management Information Systems is required for all majors except accounting. Accounting majors must take Accounting Information Systems (33:010:458).
*** Beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, there will be an update to the Business Forum (33:011:300) course requirement. If you have already taken Business Forum (33:011:300), and passed the course with a C or better, you will not need to complete 33:011:301, 302, and 303. If you entered RBS Fall 2023 or later, you will need to take the new three course sequence (33:011:301, 302, and 303). If you have already taken Business Forum 300, you may not take for credit the new 1-credit Business Forum courses.
BUSINESS POLICY & STRATEGY -- The prerequisites for 33:620:492 Business Policy and Strategy (seniors only) are:
- 33:390:300 Financial Management OR 33:390:310 Financial Management for Finance Majors AND
- 33:620:301 Intro to Management AND
- 33:630:301 Intro to Marketing
If you are missing one of these three prerequisites, you will not be able to register for Business Policy and Strategy in your senior year. You may not take any of these courses as a co-requisite with Business Policy and Strategy.
Major Requirements and Electives for RBS Majors
The major requirements for Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick programs of study include a combination of required and elective courses that students take according to their choice of major. Students must complete the requirements of the major that are in effect at the time of their admission into RBS. Students may have up to three majors. All major required and elective courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
Concentrations for RBS Students
Students who are enrolled in a Rutgers Business School Undergraduate Program in New Brunswick major can complete a concentration in Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Global Business, Leadership Skills, Management Information Systems, Real Estate and Sales.
Gateway
Undergraduate students have an opportunity to get a head start on earning a business master’s degree, which can provide a strong foundation at the start of their careers. Rutgers Business School has designed two paths for undergraduate students to be seamlessly admitted into graduate-level programs that lead to a master’s degree: Gateway and Accelerated programs.
Minors for Non-RBS Students
Students who are not enrolled in a Rutgers Business School Undergraduate Program in New Brunswick major can minor in Business Administration or Entrepreneurship.
