Departmental PhD Coordinator

The Departmental Doctoral Coordinator is responsible for the health of the major or majors administered by his or her department. The duties of the Coordinator include

  • counseling incoming students,
  • making sure that each student has a suitable adviser,
  • reviewing each student's study plan to make sure it conforms with departmental policies and with requirements for the major,
  • appointing qualifying examination committees,
  • chairing the departmental doctoral committee,
  • making recommendations to the Program Office on admission of new students,
  • making recommendations to the Program Office on awarding and renewing financial aid, and
  • making recommendations on the selection of students to be funded for attending doctoral consortia.
