The Departmental Doctoral Coordinator is responsible for the health of the major or majors administered by his or her department. The duties of the Coordinator include
- counseling incoming students,
- making sure that each student has a suitable adviser,
- reviewing each student's study plan to make sure it conforms with departmental policies and with requirements for the major,
- appointing qualifying examination committees,
- chairing the departmental doctoral committee,
- making recommendations to the Program Office on admission of new students,
- making recommendations to the Program Office on awarding and renewing financial aid, and
- making recommendations on the selection of students to be funded for attending doctoral consortia.
